Matthew D. Metzger is an experienced commercial litigator at both the trial and appellate court levels, with expertise in commercial chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings and related and out-of-court workouts.
Matt has represented many chapter 11 business debtors, chapter 11 individual debtors, non-institutional creditors, asset purchasers, and served on creditors committees. Matt’s tenacious, expedient, and creative advocacy has won the praise of colleagues and clients up and down the state of California.
As a former prosecutor, Matt has represented numerous individuals in criminal cases at both the trial and appellate levels for over 10 years.
Prior to forming Belvedere Legal, P.C., Matt clerked for the Honorable Larry R. Weeks of the First Judicial District in Juneau, Alaska, and was a prosecutor in the Office of the District Attorney, County of San Joaquin, and as a litigator with Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy, LLP, in Burlingame, California. As a Deputy District Attorney, Matt tried criminal matters as well as civil cases under California’s Unfair Competition Law. At Cotchett, Pitre, & McCarthy, Matt represented businesses and individuals in securities, predatory and abusive lending litigation, as well as consumer and investor fraud class actions.
